Percentage of total music sales by method
The line graphs below illustrate the percentage of total music sales through 3 methods: stream, CDs purchased, and download from 2011 to 2018.
Overall, there was a decline sharply in the proportion of downloads and CDs purchased. Whereas the figures of streaming climbed admirably over the period shown.
It is obvious that CDs had the highest percentage out of the other different graphs at about 55% in 2011, while the downloads approximately 35%. These figures continued reduce above 40% in 2014. After 4 years, people who bought CDs still fell down 1,5 times compared with 2014. Whereas the downloads increased slightly to 41% at the same time. However, the percentage of people who download music reduced, and these figures in 2018 were even lower than in 2011.
At first, streaming platforms did not too unpopular in 2011, this figure started at only 5%. But over time, this platform rose steadily and did not have indicated stop, while 2 other ways to listen to music dropped. And listeners to music still keep on supporting their favorite artists through streaming platforms. This the figure reached a peak of 41% in 2018. This proportion of streams took the lead on the line graph in 2018.
