The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these cause affected three regions of the world during the 1990s.

The data given in the pie chart and the table depict the factors making land reduction and the percentages of land disappearing due to these factors on three particular areas on the world in 1990s.

Overall, it is clear evident that over-grazing, deforestation and over-cultivation were three main reasons causing less productive land. Europe was the area suffered the vastest total degradation, while North America had the smallest proportion.

It is noticeable that over-grazing made up the largest amount among 4 factors, at 35%. Additionally, that people cut a lot of tree in forests also occupied less than a third and over-farming was responsible for 28%. On the contrary, other reasons accounted for only 7%, which was the smallest figure.

Over-cultivation was the factor making the most enormous number of land degradation in North American, at 3.3%; whereas Oceania’s land was not destroyed by this factor. However, 11.3% land of Oceania, the highest figure in the table, was damaged by over-grazing which also made 5.5% land of Europe become less productive. The vastest number in total degradation belonged to Europe, the second rank was Oceania and America had the smallest acreage, at 23%, 13% and 5% respectively.
