The table illustrates the number of independent films released and the percentage of income from ticket sale in the UK and Republic of Ireland by genre in the year 2012.
Overall, while comedy, drama and documentary were the most popular types of films watched in the UK and Ireland, the number of audience paid attention to action, biopic, and romance were the least. However, the rate of income from comedy and horror film took the lead.
Look at the table for more detail, we can see that both documentary and drama films topped the list, with 35 films released in accordance with 23,6% each. Comedy hold the runner-up, with 26 released films at 17.6%. The quantity of audience in biotic and action, romance films were the least, at 1(0.7%), 4(2.7%), and 5 (3.4%) films released respectively.
The striking feature was the level of income made from ticket sale. Comedy hold the lion’s share at 45.4% of income, which was more twice as much as that of horror films, at 20.2%, a difference of 25.2%. In the meantime, romance and thriller films created the smallest profit, at 0.8% and 1.3% respectively.
