The table shows the consumer expenditure in five nations within three different categories during 2002 as a percentage of the total for each type of item.
Overall, one can see that of all the categories, food and tobacco has the highest proportion of consumption while leisure and education has the lowest.
Looking at the table more closely, it is clear that the percentage of food and tobacco consumed in Turkey stands out, with national expenditure representing almost one-third of those in this category, which is 32.14 percent. The figure of Ireland in this category is closed behind at 28.91 percent as the second place. Turkey also has a fairly distribution in clothing and footwear whereas consumers make up an enormous expenditure in leisure and education, with each accounting for 6.63 percent and 4.35 percent. At the same time, the proportion of leisure and education expenditure in Spain and Ireland both hit a low while Turkey represents almost two times higher. Statistics show that Italy is the most consumer expenditure nation in clothing, which accounts for 9 percent, followed by the amount of expense consumed in Turkey at 6.63 percent. Compared to the figure of Italy, that in Sweden is less doubled with 5.4 percent. In contrast, a balance trend is seen on lower end with food and tobacco in Sweden and Italy, capturing 15.77 percent and 16.36 percent of the total. In leisure and education, the proportion of expenditure in those nations are relatively evenly distributed, capturing 3.20 percent in Italy and 3.22 percent in Sweden.
To sum up, Turkey stands out as having the most national consumer expenditure by all categories during 2002.
