The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.
The given table compares consumption of various categories including refreshment, clothes, recreational and educational activities in Ireland, Italy, Spain and Turkey in 2002.
Overall, food, drink and tobacco accounted for the lion’s share in expenditures of the surveyed people in all five countries. The opposite allocation, however, was found in the group of leisure and education.
As can be seen from the table, the most money spent on sort of food, drinks and tobacco was in Turkey, with the proportion of 32,14%, followed by 28,91% from Ireland. There was not much discrepancy in expenses of this sort in the three remaining countries, which varied between 15,77% and 18,8%.
For clothing and footwear, the Italian spent the most with the percentage of 9%. People from Ireland, Spain and Turkey consumed approximately 6,5% of their budget, while the figure for the Swedish was about 1% lower. Significant differences could not be seen in spending on leisure and education in these countries with the marginal amount of money ranging from 1,98% to 4,35%.
