the table below shows the amount of waste production in six different countries over a twenty-year period
The table compares the amount of waste discharged in six nations from 1980 to 2000
Overall, all countries witnessed an upward trend in their waste production, with the exception of Korea. Remarkably, throughout the period, the US was always the number one country in terms of waste, while the least of this was reported in Portugal
In 1980, America had the highest amount of waste with 131 million tonnes, followed by Japan with a much lower figure, 28 million. The remaining countries’ figures just stayed below 5 and the one for Korea had not seen until 1990 when its data was first reported with 31 million tonnes and nearly even that of Japan ( 32 million ). Also, in the same year, Ireland’s figure was missing and the amount of waste in the US rose to 151 million, which was 20 million higher than itself in 1980 and 5 times as much as all other figures in the same year
In terms of the waste production of all six nations in 2000, Ireland and Portugal were the cleanest with only 5 million tonnes of waste. Korea also managed to reduce its waste with an over 10 million decrease to 19 million tonnes. On the other hand, America still remained its first position with an increase to 192 million tonnes
