The table below shows the consumer durables (telephone, refrigerator, etc.) owned in Britain from 1972 to 1983.
The chart gives data regarding eight main consumer durables bought by British people between the years 1972 to 1983.
Overall, it is clear that there was a significant positive correlation between the time and the percentage of households owned these appliances, indicating that the number of households purchased the appliances increases considerably over this period. While telephone and central heating had the most increased rates respectively, television had the lowest rate of rising over 11 years.
In 1972, over half of the British families owned televisions, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, and washing machines, at 93%, 83%, 73%, and 66%, respectively; followed by telephones (42%) and central heating (37%). The information about video and dishwashers were not accessible.
However, this trend was not completely reflected in the year 1983. While television and refrigerator appliances were the highest purchased rates among appliances and available for almost all British households, at 98% and 94% respectively, followed by washing machines, telephones, central heating, and videos, at 80%, 77%, and 64%. By contrast, only 5 percentage points of households had dishwashers in 1983. Despite the fact that the high levels of families used vacuum cleaners from 1972 until 1982, its data was not accessible for the year 1983.
