The Table shows various home electronic devices owned in Britain from years 1972 to 1983. Numbers are given in percentages. Overall TV is the major group which is found almost in every home.
Central heating was found in only 33 percentage of houses in 1972, which has increased steadily during timescale and almost doubled till 1983 with 64%. Telephone showed also similar increase throughout years, in fact only 42% of houses had telephone in 1972, and this number rose to 77% in 1982. Household appliances like refrigerator and washing machine showed roughly similar pattern, they increased from 73% in 1972 to 94% in 1983.
Coming up to vacuum cleaners, roughly 90 percent of people owned them in 1972, which has increased to 95% in 1982. The data for vacuum cleaners in 1983 is unfortunately missing.
Dishwashers were not available till late 70’es, and ownership increased from 3% in 1978 to 5% of houses in 1983, similarly videos were not found from 1972 to 1982, yet in contrast to dishwashers it increased from zero in 1982 to 18% in 1983.
