The table below shows how much money a single person and a couple in Australia need for a comfortable lifestyle after they retire.

The table compares the consumer spending between an individual and a couple in Australia who need to retire comfortably.

Overall, it is noticeable that almost all of the consumption for living of a retired couple is higher, with the spending for leisure being the highest, while the cost for others is the lowest. In addition, the consumption that a retired individual spends for living with housing is the highest, and the spending for others is the lowest.

Regarding housing, leisure health, and transport, a retired couple spent mostly on leisure at $202 while a retired individual spent only $140. In contrast, a retired individual spends mostly on housing at $184, and it is still lower than the cost of a retired couple for $194. The money spent on travel from retired couples and individuals is almost equal at $108 and $107, respectively. Additionally, the retired couple spent $177 on their health, more than a retired single spent $122.

In terms of clothing, food, and others, the retired couple's cost of clothing is $80, which is almost double the spending that a retired individual would spend. The money for a retired couple's meal is $100, and it is double the cost of a retired single. In addition, $37 is the lowest cost that a retired individual spends for others while a retired couple has to spend 70 USD.
