Overall, New Zealand's population grew slightly over 2 years. Furthermore, the figure for those aged under 40 decreased while the opposite can be seen in the quantity of those aged 40.
In 2011,the total New Zealand's population was 4,381,269 compared to 4,410,284 in 2012, which rose by 0,6%. Meanwhile, the number of people aged over 65 witnessed a sharp increase, 4% from 573,946 to 596,903. Simultaneously, the figure for people aged 40-64 years old went up about 4.0%. In 2011, it started with numbers from 573,946 to 596,903 in 2012.
Coming to other aged groups, the 15-39 aged group accounted for the largest of the population in both years although it went down by 2% which decreased from 1.577.256 to 1.574.102. Similarly, people under 15 years old also declined from 898,160 to 896,364, which fell by 0.2%.
