The table below shows the results of a 25-year study on the use of bicycles in Britain by age and gender.
The given table compares the information on how much a bicycle was used (in miles) by both the sexes across different age groups over a period of 25 years in Britain.
Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the amount of distance covered by all the cyclists as a whole decreased gradually over time. However, boys in the teenage group came out to be the ones who used bicycles the most among all the other groups.
According to the given illustration, at the start of the period, boys below 10 traveled nearly twice the distance(32 miles) covered by the girls of the same group. However, the number in miles fell sharply and plunged to only 16 each by the end of the period. Also, boys and girls 11 to 17 years old showed a noticeable difference, as the latter covered just one-fourth of the distance marked by the former during the first year of survey, but steadily both the genders lost their passion to reach finally to half of the initial value.
On the contrary, whilst females(18-59) started losing interest before leveling off at 20 miles, the opposite sex quadrupled bicycle usage and rose to 80 miles in the 25th year. On the other hand, a dramatic plummet was witnessed after a decade in the case of an aged group(65 and above) which slipped the value lower by 50%. That shows a reduction in human stamina with progression of age.
