The table illustrates the distance travelled on bike, divided by age and gender, determined by a study conducted over a 25-year period in Britain.
In general, it is apparent that cycling is most sought after by men, especially adolescent boys, whereas the exact opposite is true for women. However, the overall trend is also seen to decline over the duration of the study, regardless of age and gender.
Focusing on men, we can see that teenage boys covered an average of roughly 150 plus miles, each annually, making the mileage the greatest out of all the other groups. On the other hand, the distance traveled by the opposite sex is much less, with a minimum of as low as 9 and capping at 56 miles for the young girls.
While these may be great figures, the trend of cycling declined over the two and a half decade long period. All groups except from men of 18-59 year olds’, which underwent a slight 9 mile rise from its initial 71, saw a steady decrease. The younger men went from 226 miles initially, to half that in the 25th year. As is true for boys girls younger than the age of 10 as well as retiring adults, with beginning distance as 32,18,a and 29 respectively.
