Meanwhile, the total expenditure also experienced a two-fold increase, between 15.7 and 30 billion US dollars in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
European countries and other areas, however, accounted for a smaller contribution of expense on technology, compared to America, with 3.3 and 2.7 billion US dollars, accordingly in 2006. In addition, their figures grew slightly over the research period, reaching around three to four billion dollars in 2010.
