The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade*-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.

The tables provide information about how much money was earned by Fair-trade bananas and coffee in 5 countries over a 5-year period.

Overall, the most striking feature is coffee revenues increased in all 5 nations, with the UK having the most dramatic climb over the period. In comparison, sales for bananas also increased to varying degrees in 3 countries while the reversed was true for Sweden and Denmark.

Looking at sales of coffee between 1999 and 2004 , the figure for the UK shot up from 1.5 million to 20 million pounds. A less pronounced increase was witnessed in the figure for Switzerland, which doubled to reach 6 million pounds in 2004. In comparison, coffee revenues in Belgium rose by only 0.7 million pounds, which more than tripled the increase in the figures for Denmark and Sweden.

Turning to the revenue of bananas in the same period, the figure for Switzerland climbed remarkably to reach 47 million euros. In addition, there were comparable increases in the figures for the UK and Belgium (by almost 6 times to hit 5.5 million euros and by around 7 times to reach 4 million euros, respectively). By contrast, banana sales in both Sweden and Denmark experienced noticeable reductions (by 0.8 million euros and 1.1 million euros).
