Task 01
The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.

The bar chart compares the total amount of time the UK residents spent on different types of phone calls, namely local - fixed line, national and international - fixed line and mobiles between 1995 and 2002. Overall, while the trend for local phone calls saw a fluctuation, that of the other two categories grew during the period.

In 1995, local calls were the most popular with over more than 70 billion minutes recorded, which was nearly twice as many as that of national and international ones, at around 37 billion. Meanwhile, calls made by using mobile phones constituted an insignificant part of this year with only lower than 5 billion.

After seven years, there had been remarkable changes in the popularity of the three categories. The total number of minutes spent on local calls increased steadily and reached a peak of 90 billion in 1999 before decreasing considerably to over 70 billion in 2002. Concurrently, national and international calls witnessed gradual growth in their popularity, with the figure rising to slightly over 60 billion. In the meantime, mobile usage went up at a dramatic pace, hitting a record high of roughly 45 billion at the end of the period shown.
