This is a task in Cambridge practice tests. The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The two pie charts describe the energy usage in an average Australian household and the greenhouse gas emissions each usage contribute to. The analysis is based on focusing six usages; water heating, refrigeration, lighting, cooling, heating and other appliances.
It can be seen that, 42% of energy usage is accounted by heating while 30% of usage is based on water heating. Least amount of energy is used for cooling purposes and lighting uses 4% of total energy, which is twice the amount used for cooling. To refrigerate items, 7% of energy is used while just above twice this amount is used for other appliances.
When looking at the greenhouse gas emissions, a majority, 32% of gas is emitted through water heating. Emission through other appliances comes in second with 28% of gas emission. This is twice the amount that refrigeration is accountable for. This in fact is compatible with energy usage as, other appliances use twice the amount of energy than refrigeration, and other appliances emit twice the amount of greenhouse gases than refrigeration. Although a majority of energy is used for heating, the amount of greenhouse gases that it emits is at a relatively low level with 15% of the total. Just as minimum amount of energy is used on cooling, it also emits the least amount of greenhouse gases which is only 3%.
