The line graph compares yearly spending by Americans on mobile phone and landline phone services over a 10-year period.

Overall, expenditure on cell phone services rose dramatically while the amount of spending on residential phone services declined considerably during the period shown. Also, in the year 2006, cell phone overtook residential phone as the main phone service in the US.

In 2001, mobile phons expenditure was just over $200, compared to nearly $700 on landline phones services. Over the following 5 years, average yearly spending on cell phone service grew almost $500. By contrast, the figure for landline phone declined gradually to below $600.

In 2006, the average Americans paid out the same amount of money on both of phone services, just over % 500 each. By 2010, expenditure on mobile phone services increased nearly fourfold to its initial, to around $750. Meanwhile, the figure for landline phone declined to just over half this amount.
