The bar chart below shows the numbers of men and women attending various evening courses at an adult education centre in the year 2009. The pie chart gives information about the ages of these course participants. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and making comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.

The bar chart gives the information about the number of men and women attending an adult education centre in the year 2009 while the pie chart illustrates the percentage of their age profiles respectively.

Overall, the two charts show that most of the people attending the course are women and the majority came from high age groups rather than younger groups.

We can easily see from the bar chart that the number of female participants were more than male ones except for the sculpture course. There were 25 women participating in the painting course, with 5 people more than men. Furthermore, the females were twice as many as the males in both language course and drama course where the female numbers were 40 and 20 while the male figures stood at 20 and 10 respectively.

Looking at the pie chart, it is clear that a majority of the participants were at the age of 50 or over rather than the younger ages. 42% of the participants were from the aged 50 or over group, which was much higher than the rate of 5% from those aged under 20. 26% of students came from the group of age 40-49,and there was a lower rate of 16% with those aged 30-39.Meanwhile, the group with the least attendance was the 20-29 one (only 11%). Apparently, the percentage of participants is proportional to their age profiles.
