The line chart compares the number of barrels of oil production and consumption in China from the years 1982 to 2006.
Overall, the number of barrels of oil production increased slightly, whilst the number of barrels of oil consumption was a sharp increase over the twenty-four years.
In 1982, the amount of oil production and consumption was the same nearly at about 2 million barrels per day, then it changed clearly. The number of barrels of oil production rose suddenly at 3 million barrels per day in 1986, whereas the number of barrels of oil consumption remained stable from the years 1986 to 1990.
During sixteen years from 1990 to 2006, the number of barrels of oil consumption went up dramatically from 2 million to over 3 million barrels per day in 1994, then reach a peak at over 6 million barrels per day in 2006. In contrast, the figures for production just climbed roughly over 3 million barrels per day in 2006. That means, people in China consumed at a higher rate than it is production.
