It is irrefutable that Cultural Sociology and Mass Media are closely interconnected. In a modern-day world Mass Media has an immense impact on cultural emergence, development and transformation. The process is highly accelerated owing to free and instant access to worldwide sources from all points in the world. Such influence inevitably affects our cultural distinction and diversity.
Such tendency has long attracted my attention and currently composes the key part of my bachelor’s degree research. The research is intended to define the homogenization and americanization of contemporary culture owing to mass media and indicate its undesirable impact and possible solutions. It is hypothesized that this tendency can pave the way for the dominance of American culture over local cultures in global civilization, which, in turn, can lead to the destruction of the cultural identity around. The loss of cultural identity, accordingly, leads to a regression of the global civilization, to which all local cultures belong, because different cultures bring new ways of thinking, new knowledge and different experiences, making this global civilization more dynamic and progressive. Undoubtedly, the subject is generic and demands a detailed research during the master’s degree.
As of particular objectives, I am keen on, apart from yielding the knowledge provided by the curriculum, conducting individual and team research projects pertaining to my topic. I am planning to actively participate in corresponding events and seminars related to my research area. Moreover, I am looking forward to drawing parallels between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, in terms of the impacts of Mass Media on the culture. An intriguing comparison will include the degree of influence and prospective solutions.
It is my firm belief that with the expertise gained at current university, practical knowledge and due motivation, I will achieve all of the set goals.
