In some schools and universities, girls tend to choose arts subjects (e.g. literature), and boys tend to choose science subjects (e.g. physics). Why do you think this is so? Should this tendency be changed? Do you agree or disagree?

It has been observed that most of the girls prefer arts subjects instead of commerce, science and engineering and on the other side boys tend to choose science. There are numerous reasons for the same. I completely agree with the statement that more girls inclined towards arts stream compared to any other. In the following paragraphs I will discuss the reasons and supporting arguments of my statement.

The primary reason that plethora of girls choose arts subjects over others because of its easy and simple topics also they have to indulge in various types of other daily tasks that need physical and mentally efforts for instance, cooking, cleaning and other kitchen related work. On the other side, boys are dominant in science, engineering and commerce field because of extreme competition in the market of getting job and they need to feed their whole family. Other reason could be stereotype thinking still persist in the contemporary society that expect women needs to be less qualified and more focused on house making activities. Additionally, in the rural areas, people still believe academic knowledge should not be given to girl child as there will be no use because of early marriages and prohibition to work after marriage.

But now this tendency is changing gradually as more girls are proving themselves in the fields of academics, sports and corporate. However, in rural and backwards areas, government need to focus to start initiatives and to develop the thinking and to remove unbiaseness and inequality among genders.

In conclusion, girls have many responsibilities apart from education which let them think to opt for easy subjects over others also there are other numerous reasons for same. So, it is indispensable to change the tendency towards girls.
