Sylvia:
You have had a bank account for a few years. Recently you received a letter from the bank stating that your account is $240 overdrawn and that you will be charged $70 which will be taken directly from your account. You know that this information is incorrect.
Write a letter to the bank. Explain what has happened and say what you would like them to do about it.
Dear sir,
I am writing in regards to a notice I received from your bank about the overdraft on my current account (0123987). I have operated this account for about four years.
However, I will like to call your attention to the fact that according to my books, I should have a credit balance of about $245. Eight months ago, I instructed the bank to initiate a standing order to Heritage Home's account for my mortgage payment for six consecutive months (September to February). This order should have been terminated two months ago accordingly. I was nonetheless unpleasantly surprised when I received my bank statement including a letter that my account has been overdrawn, revealing that the standing order is yet to be cancelled. This implies that $480 has been paid in excess of the mortgage payments.
Since this mistake is from the bank, I kindly request that the last two transactions ($240 each) be reversed and that the standing order should be immediately stopped. I would also ask that no charges should be deducted from my account. In addition, I would appreciate it if a copy of my bank statement can be mailed to me after the necessary reconciliation has been carried out.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
Yours faithfully,
Sylvia Akinjare
