Writing task 1 (a letter)

Write a letter to a city planning manager about demolition of a historical building in your area and say

– Explain why it shouldn’t be demolished.
– Suggest a future use for this building.
– Recommend a way to raise money for repairs.

Dear Sir/Madam,

This letter is written to draw your attention towards the demolition of the Mystic Fall's historic clock Tower.

As the clock tower has been part of the town's legacy for many centuries therefore it would be a great loss to see it being bulldozed and desecrated. It holds immense cultural and social significance to our township. Since it was built by our founding father's, it holds animportant place in our residents heart. Additionally, the tower is a meeting ground for the senior citizens. Every weekend they come together and play chess and other board games. Furthermore, we have petitioned in the court to declare it as a Heritage site .

As the tower has many rooms, it can be used as a community hall for social gatherings, events or even heritage walks. Consequently, it will help in keeping the building working and more people will be aware of the existance of our historical marvel.

I understand the building is quite old and requires fixing, therefore, a carnival can be arranged collect the funds for its repair. Ideally, a heritage walk would be a better idea but due lack of good tour guides we opted for keeping a carnival. Subsequently, there will be a community awareness programme for a month to help spread the word about the demolition of the clock tower.

I would be grateful if you can take sometime to take up our recommendations. Let me know if you wish to discuss it further.

Looking forward to your resonse.

Yours Faithfully

Tim
