You borrowed some books from your school or college library. Unfortunately, you have to
go away to visit a sick relative and cannot return the books in time.
Write a letter to the library.
Explain what has happened and tell them what you want to do
about it.
Dear Mr Lee,
I am writing with regards to the the general knowledge books I borrowed from the library. Unfortunately, my grandmother had an accident and is completely bedridden and hence, we all are leaving tonight to visit her. As a result, I will not be able to drop by the school and return the books.
Let me explain my situation in detail. In view of the upcoming presentations, I had borrowed all the books relevant to the topic to prepare well before the due date. Moreover, to avoid any last minute panic situations, I gathered all the study material and prepared some notes in advance. Nevertheless, for I will be out of town and unable to present, these books need to be returned to the library immediately. Another student who will be replacing me needs these books to get up to speed.
In order to do so, I would like to request you to send a peon to my place after school so that the books can be made available in time. Finally, please accept my sincere apologies for all the inconveniences caused.
Hoping my situation will be considered favorably.
Yours faithfully,
Mary Smith
