Essay topics:

Your local newspaper is offering an award for people who have helped the community. Write a letter to the newspaper editor. In your letter
• suggest someone you think should receive the award
• describe what the person does to help the community
• suggest an award that would be appropriate for this person

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a resident of Docklands; Melbourne and I am writing to you in regards to expressing my appreciation for your newspaper "The Age" that has decided to reward people who have selflessly helped others and brought positive changes to the community. I would like to recommend someone for the award who has contributed immensely to improve our community a better place.

Mr. James Smith, a retired Commander who is known for his Green tree movement in our community, who deserves the award more than any other person. He has worked on the Green tree movement project for the past 10 years. He had inspired thousands of people particularly the children involving them to plant trees and save the planet for the future. A year ago, his sincere dedication had brought him national recognition because of the Green tree movement. He is highly a respectable person, who is loved by his friends and neighbors.

A simple crest or trophy as a reward wouldn't match for his medals and honors which he had gained during his public service as a Commander. Hence, I would like to suggest you should make the award giving ceremony open for all.

Kind regards,

John Taylor
