Some children spend hours every day on their smartphones Why is this case Do you think this is a positive or negative development

It is a contemporary phenomenon that kids spend a substantial part of their daily lives with smartphones. This essay will figure out the motivations and give assessments on the aforementioned issue based on personal points of view.

First and foremost, smartphones are the fruits of the fourth technology revolution, rooted in the last decades of the twentieth century. Since the first smartphone was introduced in the 2010s, people have adopted new habits, including using that innovation in almost all daily activities. Due to the hustle and bustle in most modern residential areas, parents have less time to spend playing and educating their children. Therefore, they tend to rely on digital devices for babysitting. In addition, urban lives in mega cities are much more complex than those in the countryside. In such environments, letting children play in public playgrounds or other crowded areas without parents’ supervision is an absolute risk. Indeed, parents have no choice but to lock children inside an apartment with the accompaniment of smartphones for education and entertainment.

On the one hand, this issue indicates a number of beneficial tendencies. The popularity of smartphones reflects a society in which development is constantly happening at an unprecedented speed. In a digital age, smartphones help kids open access to a broader flat world in which they are nurtured to be global citizens. Mastering smart devices also provides children with digital skills that suit the ongoing development tendency. On the other hand, gluing onto electrical screens and immersing themselves in a virtual world might expose young people to shortsightedness, while seductive lifestyles might end up with worrying health issues. Furthermore, researchers found that children with shortages of direct connections often have difficulties in building and sustaining relationships in the future.

To sum up, the use of smartphones at an early period during people’s lifetime is neither good nor bad. Owing to the fact that technologies are merely inanimate tools, it is our purposes of using and approaches to those devices that decide the ultimate out turns.
