Essay topics:

some people believe that a crime is a result of social problems and poverty, others think that crime is a result of bad person's nature. Discuss both view and give your opinion.

There is a debate surrounding the root causes of crime, with some asserting that it is a result of an individual's inherent nature, while others argue that it is primarily influenced by social problems and poverty. Personally, I support the viewpoint that attributes crime to social issues and poverty.

On one hand, proponents of the notion that criminal activities are a result of an individual's nature believe that certain personality traits can predispose individuals to engage in unlawful behavior. This can be observed from early adolescence when children who exhibit aggressive and arrogant attitudes are more likely to get involved in fights and eventually turn to crime. For instance, according to a Daily Mail article, juveniles who bully their classmates have a 50% higher chance of engaging in criminal acts later in life compared to their well-behaved peers.

On the other hand, social issues and poverty serve as catalysts for criminal activities in society. Firstly, high rates of unemployment contribute significantly to the rise in crime. When individuals lack gainful employment or stable income sources, they may resort to illegal means to make ends meet. Consequently, areas with rampant unemployment often witness a surge in criminal incidents as people are forced into illicit activities as a means of survival. Slums such as Rio de Janeiro and New Delhi are notorious for their high crime rates due to pervasive poverty and limited job opportunities.

Secondly, impoverished individuals may be driven towards criminality out of desperation for their families' well-being during challenging times. The pressure to provide for loved ones amid financial hardships can lead people down a path where they feel compelled to commit crimes as an alternate source of income.

In conclusion, while some may argue that an individual's innate characteristics play a role in determining criminal behavior, I firmly believe that societal factors such as social issues and poverty bear greater responsibility for the prevalence of crime. Unemployment and poverty create an environment ripe for criminal activities as individuals seek ways to survive or support their families. Therefore, addressing these social problems and reducing poverty levels should be central to crime prevention strategies in order to build a more exemplary society.
