University students nowadays have too much freedom and do not study enough. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Without any qualms, learners nowadays are overburdened because of vast syllabus as well as competition. However, it is generally believed by few that sufficient amount of hardwork is not done by learners at tertiary level as a result of liberty in universities. This essay will argue why pupils are burning mid night oil in higher education despite enjoying freedom.
The primary reason why people think pupils donot focus on study and are independent is less strictness in these higher institutions. In other words, students enter and step out of the class whenever they want without getting permission from professor. While the time required to attend the lecture is wasted in canteens or cafes provided in the campuses because of no compulsion of being present in the class. For instance, since last few decades, these educational places have introduced a rule of 70-80% necessary attendance, which inturn has provided independence of bunking the class. Such instances, therefore, make people feel, students do not emphasize on their academics.
Although strictness level is negligible, I believe this is the stage where the learners have to move heaven and earth due to factors such as career and research work. Firstly, university degrees demand students to get involved in research work. To be clear, at this stage, theoretical work is quite less, while, inverse is the case for pragmatic work. Whole day and night of pupils is utilised in completing projects assigned from their teachers , as if not completed before deadline, repercussion is the extension of degree. Doctor of philosophy students, for example, they are required to write papers based on their research along with getting them published in journals without any plagiarism. Thereby, learners at this donot enjoy so called liberty.
In addition, everyone till this age becomes mature enough to understand the difference between right and wrong. To be precise, as their main focus is their career, so without taking undue advantage of less stringent rules, most of them give their best efforts to enhance their skills and take knowledge to another level. Masters of Technology pupils, to illustrate, in training semester, rather than wasting time or enjoying with friends, students prefer taking extra classes just to get selected during placement. Thus, it proves that youth gives priority to study over everything.
To conclude, I would like to reiterate by saying that blaming educatees as non serious is inadequate. Inspite having freedom, the hardwork done in the Universities can not be underrated due to above mentioned reasons.
