Some students prefer classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the
students with almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with many lectures and
almost no discussions. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support
your answer.
The education system works in many ways, but it has two principals ones, the lectures and
the discussions. Personally I think both ways are effective but which one is better depends
on two factors, the professor and the person. I believe that because I have studied many
years and I have seen both ways of teaching. Now we are going to explore this subject on
the following paragraph.
In my case, I prefer classes with discussions between the professor and the students, that’s
because in my personal experience when the professor choose this way of teaching I feel
more comfortable. Actually, this way makes me think faster because I’m interacting
constantly with my professor and my classmates. When I was coursing the first year of my
career at the university, a teacher used this way of teaching. I was very nervous and shy
because I didn’t knew her or mi classmates, the firs class was really uncomfortable, because
I think all the students felt the same way, and that made a rare atmosphere, where just a few
ones felt comfortable to participate. That was the first day, but it changed, actually at the
second week when all the class knew each other, and when we already knew the professor,
everybody wanted to participate, asked their questions and told each other’s their ideas.
After that, when the day of the test was coming, and I had to study, I realized that i knew
almost everything, and when I saw my notes I remembered all the comments that my
classmates, my teacher and i did.
Secondly I prefer this way of teaching because I’m a sociable person and that makes me feel
comfortable talking and sharing my thoughts with people, but I have known some people
who are very shy, and this way doesn’t works for them. For example I had a friend that almost
didn’t talked to anybody, and when she had to share her opinion she felt sick, in her case the
lectures were better. that’s why I think that the better teaching system depends principally
on the student.
