When you face difficult problems in life, what do you feel is the best way to solve them?
Challenges and difficulties are an inevitable part of life. All people without exception have and will face them somewhere in their lives. Hence, it is not how small or how big the problem is that is important, but it is how and whether we solve that problem that counts more. If I face one, I definitely prefer seeking advice from an elderly mostly because of two significant reasons.
First of all, those who have the experience know what works and does not. They guide you through the shortest and most effective way to solve a problem. My personal experience is a good illustration of this. Two years ago when I was applying for the Fulbright scholarship for my masters degree, I came to realize that I had to had a TEOFL score as part of the requirement. Since I had no clue of such a requirement, I had not bothered taking the test in advance. However, my brother who had taken the test several times, guided me through the quickest and efficient method to study for it. He told me about how I needed to focus on the speaking and writing sections first as they were easier to improve in a limited time. As a result, a month later I scored 84 which is acceptable for the scholarship I am applying.
Secondly, experienced people can tell us what ways does not work. They provide us with a sense of predictability to prepare ourselves to the challenge. I remember that a friend of mine had to start a restaurant business in the heart of the city. While he was well educated and interested about the idea, had no prior experience of such work. I pushed him to consult someone experienced to lessen any risk ahead, but he did not. He even refused to discuss the issue with the nieboring restaurants reasoning that he knows everything already. Now, he does have a restaurant, but it is all down. No customers, no sells and so no income.
