It does not matter if the user base color is ultra-light or a deep dark hue, they have tints for anyone. The personality of a person may be determined by their hair color. L’oreal has produced various effective commercials that bring up a positive, upbeat, proactive, and tailored feeling to their target customers. This is one of their advertisements named Colorista semi-permanent hair color for light blonde highlighted hair by L’oreal 2017. The advertisement for Colorista from L’Oreal’s hair dye color makes its target audience interested through its included text, content, and lighting.
The advertisement features a full-page photo of three girls with different hair colors on the left side and product information on the right side, which was designed with a ratio of one over one. The details were divided into two parts, left and right. On the left side, they put three portraits of three girls with long, thick, and bright-colored hair. These girls look cool with model faces. Two of them touch their hair like they are proud of it. In their portrait, the company used white as a background and let the model wear white and black shirts only, to highlight the model's hair color. On the right side is information about the product and the user manual. They use black text and white background to let the buyer easily read the slogan “color your way!” and “because you are worth it”. There is a picture of seven bottles of products in seven different colors. These images and text make up the Colorista ad.
The Colorista ad seems to target young women and girls, aged from 15 to 30. Who are still at the age that loves to enjoy their life, and do not scare to try any new thing! Since is a well-known brand available at many stores like Walmart, Target, Ulta, and almost every market, the ad is geared toward people of young females. They want to afford to purchase name-brand hair dye colors at a reasonable price. Although anyone can enjoy dyeing hair, the ad seems to target females, as only three women are shown. This observation is reinforced by the ad’s placement on Instagram. The ad’s style and images further imply that it is geared toward women who want to get a new look, by the way, they used a portrait of a young pretty model, any woman wants to look pretty and luxurious as a model. The ad, overall, seeks to target a specified range of women to provide them with an exciting experience with dying hair color.
Specifically, the ad seeks to make its target audience feel interested. The word “interesting” is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as “That concerns, touches, affects, or is of importance; important.” Being interested in something is like a baby when she first saw her mom's makeup stuff. She was attracted to the colors of eyeshadow and lipstick. She tried to put all the makeup on her face. An Example of an interesting character is Leonardo da Vinci. He is aware of almost all majors, from literature and art to social sciences. That makes people feel interested in him. They always wonder how he can be that smart. People want to know more about him. He is always an interesting topic to talk about. Interesting is completely the opposite feeling of boredom. If the ad is boring, no one will look at it. No one will want to try the product or want to know more about the item. As a company, making an interesting ad is one of its big goals. Because if the customer feels interested when they see the ad, that means they already love it so much. They are excited to know more about it and want to try the product as soon as possible. Colorista attempts to evoke an interesting feeling through its ad.
First, the ad makes the target audience feel interested through its text. The slogan “color your way!” bring the emotion of personal specific. Everybody has a different character and different style. “Color your way!” is like a cheer to customers to be who they are by the way they chose their hair favorite color. “Color your way” is also an active statement. The guests have the initiative to choose what they want. The other slogan “Because you are worth it” tells that the customer can treat themselves by changing their hair color to get a new look. “Because you are worth it” is also a compliment and encouragement. This brought a feeling of happiness and positivity to the customer. The two slogans are short but have a positive impact. The ad succeeded in making the reader feel interested through its text.
Second, the ad makes the target audience feel interested through its content. Three pictures of young women models gave the ad much attention. Because humans love to look at pretty things. Using pictures of cute girls made the viewer take more time to look at the ad. This can make the customer excited about using this product. Because most woman always thinks that someone used this product and it brings that person a good look, it also means they will too. When they see these pictures, they think these models used Colorista to dye their hair, and that made the model prettier. They think that if they use this product to dye their hair, they will be prettier too. The ad succeeded in making the reader feel interested through its content.
Third, the ad makes the target audience feel interested through its lighting. They used white for the background, black for the text, and rainbow for the hair color. This makes the hair color highlight on a white background. The customer can see more clearly the product result in the model’s hair. Using white for the background is a safe and smart choice. Because white can go with any color and readers are not confused by colors. The ad had three girls with three different hair colors, which gave the customer more options and showed the variety of colors that the brand has. The ad uses bright colors to bring a feeling of comfort, joy, and positivity. The ad succeeded in making the reader feel interested through its lighting.
