Agnostids were a group of marine animals that became extinct about 450 million years ago. Agnostid fossils can be found in rocks in many areas around the world. From the fossil remains, we know that agnostids were primitive arthropods-relatives of modern-

The author of the passage and the lecturer in the audio both discuss on how Agnostids might have lived. The author put forth three theories illustrating how Agnostids might have lived, however, the lecturer refutes the theories of the author.
First of all, the author of the passage asserts that Agnostids were free- swimming predators that hunted small creatures because Agnostids were known as arthopods and they might also be strong swimmers and active predators just like other primitive arthopods. Second, the author contends that Agnostids were seafloor dwellers as other primitive arthopods were living that way. Last, as per the author, it is feasible that the Agnostids were parasites as modern-day arthopods possess traits of parasites.
On the other hand, the lecturer in the audio contradicts the theories presented by the author in the passage. The lecturer claims that the theories asserted by author have some serious flaws. The lecturer implies that other arthopods possessed large well developed eyes for clear and magnified visions to catch its prey. However, the Agnostids possessed tiny eyes or even blind eyes. Also, there was no any evidence in the fossils of Agnostids that they possessed sepecial sensory organs. Similarly, the lecture asserts that seafloor creatures neither have ability to move freely nor they could move fast. Thus, they occupied small geographical area. In contrast, the Agnostids were able to move fast from one place to another and they also dwelled in multiple areas.
Furthermore, the lecturer demurs the author’s theory that regarded Agnostids as parasites. As per the lecturer, the population of the parasites was not supposed to be very large because larger number of parasites could kill many host animals. However, Agnostids had a very large population. Thus, the lecturer contends that it is not feasible for the Agnostids to be parasites.
