Recently, there has been a debate about the (let it burn policy), which means that letting the forest burns without suppression the fire. A group of scientists opposes this policy and gives many disadvantages of it, as the author does in the reading passage, while another group of scientist supports this policy and says it is a very good one and the professor in the lecture is one of the supporters.
First of all, the lecture maintains an opposite side of view regarding the effects of the natural fire on the forest plants, the professor claims that this fire gives the opportunity to other vegetation to appear in the area of fire which is not existing before, for example, a smaller plants which need more shade or light to grow, in addition to that, some plant's seed can't germinate unless they expose to high level of heat, so the let it burn policy would increase the diversity of the forest. Thus, the author assumption about the bad impact of the forest fire is practically not making sense.
Second, the professor asserts that the increase in plants diversity, may, in turn, increase the animals diversity as a result, for instance, the new small vegetation would be an ideal habitat for small animals like rabbits, then, these little animals would be a good food resource for the large animals, that would lead to starting a new food chain in the region. By this point, the professor casts the doubt about the text concern about the decrease in the animal in the area of the fire.
Finally, the lecturer claims that the fire might affect the tourists if that would happen each year, besides that, the situation to start fire like the 1988 fire would not be available continuously, like the lack of rain and the high speed wind ,so the tourists keep coming to this area despite the last fire. So the reading passage point about the decrease in the number of tourists would be unbelievable, especially if we know, that this kind of fire never happened again since 1988.
