Both the reading and lecture are about chaco canyon which are called great houses. according to the reading these house were used according to the three competing theories. But the lecture opposing with the theories in the reading section.
To begin with, the reading section says that these houses were used for purely residential building. The structure of houses are the evidence for earlier version of architecture; however, The lecture contradicts with the reading and says that, great houses were not used as residential buildings because if they were residential there must be more fireplaces for cocking. as there are very low amount of fire places for example, there must were 100 fireplces for 100 families instead of 10 fireplces for 100 families.
Furthermore, The reading states other theory that they were used to store food supply and the frain maize is the prove for this statement; on the other hand, the lecture says that if they were used to store grain maize so, why there is spoilled maize and why there is remaining of the maize.
Finally, the last theory of reading section suggests that great houses were used for ceremonial centers and the enormopus mound form by pile of the old material is the evidence of the suggestion;however, the lecture says that mound of the pile for old material are the building material which where used by workers and they are the trashes which found after the work.
