Children and the digital age
We are now into the so-called digital age, where the role of the digital world is increasingly bigger, past generations had to deal with this swift change gradually, but the new ones are actually born into it, so now the big challenge is how to manage this new relationship between children and their new ultra-technological tools, the smartphones, so some parents deem it to be harmful, especially for younger children, others think of it as a very good way of keeping their children in track.
Within this heated debate the most reasonable consensus would be that both arguments have their strong and weak points, as both things can happen, the option to parents is then to try to find an equilibrium point, where they start to give more liberty to children to manage technological tools as they age, at first they should give to their children pre-programmed smartphones which only contains content for infants, and only can make calls to their parents cellphone, so as times goes by and children hit their teenage years, it becomes impossible for parents to shield their offspring from the real world. At some point, they must teach children about the real world dangers and how to deal properly with them, so ultimately it all comes down to dialogue between parents and their offspring, they will realize that the current new technologies can be bad or good but it will be more dependent on how they are managed than they themselves. Times change but the best way to effectively raise children is always through dialogue, whether that is about sex, drugs, violence, politics, racism or the use of new technologies, one must always strive to keep a relationship of mutual trust, a child well guided knows very weel how to deal with possible threats and to enjoys of the perks bought by a smartphone.
