Computerized Voting System

Essay topics:

Computerized Voting System

The lecture covers the downsides of automatizing the voting process.

It states that though traditional voting system has room for human errors and miscount of votes, the automatized system also could result in miscounts due to ‘human errors’, maybe in programming, and on one hand the recounts through the traditional systems are indeed time-consuming and tedious, the automatic system would, if it malfunctions, result in loss of the voting data which can be irreversible.

The lecture also points to the fact that not everyone is accustomed to using computer-based technologies, a sudden shift towards automation of the voting system could scare off the not so tech savvy voters. The passage also mentions the banking system’s dependence on technology and the ease and comfort with which it is used nowadays, it goes on to suggest that this could imply that even the voters would be comfortable with an automatized voting system. The lecture opposes this perspective by stating that the banking system has come a long way and it had a very large number of trials to consolidate to what it is today. The banking system has had a large sample of data to modify and correct its system to reach the efficiency it has reached today. The same would not hold true for the voting system since the data sample size would be small as elections are held every few years, while the banking system functions every day.

Using the arguments above the lecture by evaluating and contradicting the points presented in the passage states the disadvantages of shifting towards the automatic voting system.
