endotherms

Essay topics:

endotherms

The reading and lecture are both about whether dinosaurs are endotherms or not. The reading passage stated three possible claims to support this theory. The lecturer challenged all these claims. He says that they are all faulty.

To begin with, the author of the passage claims that dinosaurs are endotherms due to the discovery of their fossils in the polar region. The article mentions that only special animals with the ability to adapt to such surrounding temperature could survive in that region. The lecturer challenges this specific argument. He says that dinosaurs could have lived in much warmer temperature and subsequently adapted to fluctuating temperature as month changes. In addition, he says that the dinosaurs could have even migrated or hibernated when the surrounding temperature grew severe.

Secondly, the writer suggests that due to the presence of dinosaurs leg under there body, they are endotherms as seen in other animals that are endotherms. In contrast, the lecturer claims that the presence of dinosaur’s leg under their body is to support weight and as such they can grow bigger without any challenge. He elaborated that they can grow to a very high size.

In conclusion, the author of the passage posits that the nerve and blood vessels in dinosaurs are also found in living animals is a reason why they could be regarded as endotherms. Whereas, the lecturer refutes this claim by stating that this vessels allow them to grow at a slow rate during very cold temperature and then grow again after the surrounding temperature become more favourable.
