genetically modifies trees advantages and disadvantages

Essay topics:

genetically modifies trees advantages and disadvantages

The reading and the lecturer both are about genetically modified trees. The author believes that planting genetically modified trees has three benefits, and presents them in the article. The lecturer refutes the claims made in the article. Her position is that if we look closer, there are disadvantages to this approach.
To begin with, the reading asserts that modifying trees genetically will help them to survive hard conditions. The speaker claims that in every wild tree species, there are always few ones, which resist the bad environmental conditions, and survive. But genetically modified trees are much more uniform, and if a harmful situation like pests or climate change happens, they will all die.
Secondly, the passage states that genetically modified trees are lucrative for farmers. The lecturer, however, argues that there are hidden costs in planting those trees. Because every time the farmer is going to plant new seeds, he has to pay the seed company its price, and it is not free.
Finally, the writer of the article contends that overuse of wild trees will be prevented by raising genetically modified trees. The lecturer believes that planting such kinds of trees will damage the wild trees, because they grow aggressively among natural trees. They are going to compete with wild trees in absorbing water, nutrients, and sunlight. Eventually, make wild trees disappear.
