Private collectors have been selling and buying fossils

Essay topics:

Private collectors have been selling and buying fossils

The passage and lecture are both about the effects of trading fossils as a business. The author of the passage mentions the negative effects acquired because of this business. on the contrary, the lecturer contradicts various viewpoints mentioned in the passage based on three reasons. She doubts that the benefits of this business are more than the bad effects.

To begin with, the author of the passage mentions that selling fossils to collectors decreases the chances of seeing some valuable fossils for the public. On the other hand, the lecturer points out that not only collectors but some institutions and schools could buy these fossils. she believes that selling fossils can give a chance to schools or some private institutions the to buy and even exhibit these fossils for their students and many people.

In addition, the passage cast doubt on the idea that schools and universities have a limitation in their budget and due to the astronomical price which these fossils trade, they could not buy and research them so, selling some of these fossils could lose the chance of scientists discoveries, yet, the lecturer take attention to this point that, only Scientist could determine the value of the fossils that discovered.

In the end, the author brings out this point that because most of the fossil collectors are untrained in excavation and transporting the fossils they could have a bad impact on them. however, the lecturer believes that discovering more fossils even damaged or broken is better than discovering a few fossils.
