The reading and the lecture talk about the Pterosaurs which is an ancient dinosaur with a winged reptiles. The author claims that Pterosaurs are incapable to flight and he provides three reasons to explain his point. The professor casts doubt on all the claims made by the author.
First of all, the author believes that compared to modern reptiles, Pterosaurs are also cold-blooded, which explain that they have a slow metabolism that enable them to produce sufficient energy to fly. The lecturer refutes this point. She explains that recent researches has discovered that the old age reptiles are covered by a dense hair or what we call fur, which make them a hot blooded animals and they do not have a slow metabolism. This fast metabolism supply them with the necessary energy that able them to fly.
Secondly, the author states that Pterosaurs are a heavy weight creature, this fact enable them to flap their wings fast, as a result they cannot stay in the air for any length of time. The professor posits this argument. She explains that the bones of the Petrosaurs are not solid, they are hallowed and this keep their weight low, this provide the giant creature flapping their wings enough fast to fly.
Third, the author suggests that Pterosaurs does not possess enough power to supply the flight when they are on the ground. He explains that they have a small and weak muscles in their back legs. The professor, in the other hand, opposes this idea. She put on forth the idea that Pterosaurs do not necessarily take off the way birds do, in contrast this creatures walk on 4 legs and they use them to push their body when they need to fly. She says that even the large Pterosaurs have no problem to take off and flight.
To assume, the professor has effectively casts doubt on all the arguments and theories presented on the reading.
