R. robustus
The reading and the listening are both about the suggestion that R.robustus was an active hunter of dinosaurs .While the reading’s author states three reasons why it is more likely for r.robustus to be a scavenger than a hunter the lecturer opposes these reasons .
To begin with the author states that r.robustus was smaller in size compared to dinosaurs and due to its size it would have been unable to hunt them. However, the lecturer disputes this by explaining that r.robustus was still larger than baby dinasours so it would have been able to hunt them, and the fact that the dinasour which was found in r.robustus’ stomach was half its size acts as an example .
Secondly, the writer states that considering its short legs which are to the side r.robustus would be unable to chase after prey therefore the author suggested that it was more suited for scavenging rather than hunting. On the other hand the lecturer describes Tasmanian Devil an animal which has similar legs to r.robustus’ but is known for being a fast active predator. She explains that if Tasmanian Devil can hunt with those legs so can r.robustus.
Finally, the author posits that the dinosaur which was found in r.robustus’ stomach had no marks of active hunting such as teeth or claw marks and that it was more likely that it found an unguarded egg and swallowed it.The lecturer rebuts this by stating the fact that r.robutuses did not use their back teeth for chewing and due to the lack of chewing it was normal that there were no marks.
In conclusion, the lecture and the reading are both about the r.robustus.The author states reasons why the r.robustus was not an active hunter and the lecturer effectively challenges the reasonings of the author.
