Reading literature
The reading passage and the listening both discuss the reading literature book. The author feels that there is a decline in the reading of literature books compared to the past days, and provides three reasons to support the claims; however, the speaker opposes and refutes each of the arguments made in the listening.
First, according to the passage, the writer states that reading literature books had decreased considerably, which had declined the intellectual stimulation of the people. This specific argument is challenged by the speaker. The lecturer asserts that reading only literature books would not stimulate intellectual thinking, but referring to science fiction and political history books would also enhance and stimulate the understanding and thinking power of the people.
Secondly, the writer mentions that people are giving more time to music and television these days rather than reading literature novels; thereby declining the cultural level. On the contrary, the professor explains that culture had changed since music and television would convey information and cultural values to society more effectively compared to with contemporary form.
Finally, the author argues that reading had dropped significantly when good books were available, that's why the writer invests less in writing on literature books. In contrast, the speaker posits that today's books are difficult to understand, and it is the fault of the writer. Furthermore, the lecturer stance that even earlier people would not enjoy reading difficult books.
