The reading and lecture are both about the cane toad population, which nowadays threatens native small animals. The author of reading believes that there are some methods, which can stop the spread of the cane toad. The lecture challenges the statement made by the author. The professor is of the opinion that these ways are impractical.
First of all, the author suggests that it can build a national fence to prevent from reaching the toads. This idea is challenged by the lecture. She says that young toads and their eggs are located in the rivers, so they can pass easily by waters ways. Consequently, the young toads can colonize in a new place; therefore, building the fence is not a useful way for them.
Secondly, the writer contends that the toads could be caught by hand, especially the young toads and the eggs. The lecture, however, rebuts this by asserting that this work can be dangerous for native frogs. She elaborates on this by mentioning that unskilled volunteers can hurt the frogs and this is very bad because some of them are endangered
Finally, it is stated that in the article that can use the specific virus to regulation the cane toad populations. The author establishes that the virus can destroy the cane toads and it has no danger for other animals. The lecture, on the other hand, posits that this is the bad think because it has harmful results for toads and original home. She mentions that in Australia can transfer the reptile to other sites to prevent infections, but in America if the virus attacks the native cane toads, it will destroy their populations. As a result, this event can change the entire ecosystem because the toads are a significant part of the ecosystem in America.
