summarize the points made in the lecture about problems with possible theories made for animals sudden elimination explanation, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading about animals sudden extinction.
The reading discusses the possibilities that can be a logical explanation for sudden elimination of various animal species in a limited time frame. However, the professor, in the lecture, totally disagrees with these theories and thinks that they can not be satisfying reasons for these phenomena. She gives three reasons to oppose the assumptions mentioned in the writing.
First, the article states that sea levels' reduction may be a possible cause for different animals extinction. But, the professor reminds that the animals that lived in these habitats had the capability to adapt themselves to gradual sea level fluctuations. So, there would be an extinction just if these sea level changes happened abruptly which we know they were not. Therefore, this theory can not be a good explanation for animals' extinction.
Second, the passage indicates that sudden climate cooling is another main factor that can lead to an expanded extinction. In contrary, professor reminds that sulfur dioxide which is attributed as the main cooling reason is still present in the atmosphere. Also, she mentions that this chemical compound would not stay in the air for much long time, since it might react with water and come down to soil in the form of rain eventually. Thus, its concentration was not in a noticble quantity that can affect the life of many creatures.
Third, the reading talks about the possibility of an astroid hit as a theory that could end the life of animals in that period. On the other hand, she believes that this idea is problematic, as there is not any evidance about any astroid that hit the earth in that time. Although scientists found some carter samples but these samples analysis showed that they are for 12 million years ago so much before the time that this extinction even began to occur.
