summarize the points made in the lecture about zebra mussels invasion, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading about shellfish zebra mussels invasion consequences.
The reading discusses the possible invasion of a shellfish spcie named zebra mussel. It believes that their invasion can not be stooped and it seriously enforcing a threat to the environment. However, the professor in the lecture, thinks that this hypothesis is controversial and provides three reasons to defend his opposing attitude toward the reading.
First, the passage mentions that the history of the zebra mussel shellfish indicates that generally their expansion can not be stopped. But, the professor believes that at the past decades of time, people had little knowldge about saftey measures to prevent these spcies invasion. Thus, the problem can be controled if they inspect ships and prevent them from transfering and emptying waters which contain zebra mussels in other ocean areas.
Second, the article talks about the zebra mussel shellfish domination in the new habitats, since they are considered as hard species that can survive harsh conditions. On the other hand, the professor opposes this agenda and reminded the students about other predator species like birds that can eat shellfish mussels in the water frequently and reduce or regulate the pace of their expansion.
Third, the reading regards that zebra mussel shellfish can cause a decrease in other water fishes population in the habitats since they tend to become dominant there normally. In contrary, in spite of the fact that he admits about some negative impacts which may be true, but he thinks that there can be some other positive influences with them too. For example, they may provide other creatures with necessary nutrients for their living.
