Essay topics:

Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific points made in the reading passage.

Both the reading passage and the lecture argue some misconceptions about elephants. The reading enumerates several ideas that support why people are interested in elephants. On the other hand, the lecturer is diametrically opposed to those reasons and illustrates that those rationals are only misunderstandings of the elephants' behavior.
In the reading, the elephants’ awareness of their death time followed by leaving their groups, is considered one of the behaviors that absorb people’s attention. Conversely, the professor states that elephants leave their group for other reasons. In old ages, elephants' teeth wear down and make it arduous for elephants to chew foods. Therefore, they choose places with soft vegetation to eat. Their favorite food would be found in the vicinity of water. Thus the reason that elephants' bones are found in “elephant graveyard” is related to their living place near the water when they are dying.
Second, the professor disputes that elephants have the ability to paint. She explains that elephants would learn how to play through training. those trainers use the sensitivity of elephants’ ears to teach them how to move the paintbrush and create a painting. painting an object like flower or animals is taught by stimulating elephant to perform some repetitive behavior. Therefore, these painting is not a product of elephants abilities to draw but they are learned through training.
Third, having fear of mice is a misconception because what elephants are reacting to is not the mice but they startle because mice are strange to elephants. she continues that elephants are inherently cautious about unfamiliar animals and that is why they see mice for the first time and react to them. elephants in the zoo do not cautious about mice since they got used to mice and they are not strange.once an elephant learns that mice are not a threat to them, never react to mice and fear of them.
