Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific methods proposed in the reading passage.
The reading and the lecture offer two opposing views on the creating new type of broccoli in the East cost. Whereas the author of the reading suggests that this effort has many benefit for people, the lecturer states that the process of creating broccoli is not as beneficial as the text claims. She casts doubt on the main points made in the reading by providing three reasons.
First, according to the text, producing broccoli in the East cost is cost-efficient for who lives there because of the ommition of the transportation costs. However, the lecturer disputes that it may be economical not to use long distanses transportation, but because farmers have to cultivate less broccoli per hectar, less harvets will be achieved. Consequently, the high price of low amount of broccoli would cancel the decreased costs of transportation, and people will buy them expensive.
Secondly, the reading asserta that traditional breeding techniques will be used to create a new type broccoli, more adapted to the East cost climate. Nevertheless, the lecturer believes that due to the distrust that consumers had have with the genetically modification processes, they won't accept the new broccoli produced. They are skeptic to the quality and health of these products, so they will reject them as well.
Finally, the most fresh vegtables are, the most vitamins and minerals have. Based on the text, by transporting broccoli from the West cost to the East cost, its valuable ingridents will be diminished. On the other hand, the lecturer argues that creating broccoli in East cost dose not necessarily mean that they have high vitamins and so forth. She says that other fresh vegtables such as kale, also have high amount of worthwhile nutrients that people can eat. She explains that by educating people, they will know that in the East cost, the other fresh and locally growth vegtables are produced for eating.
