Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage.
The article is about the imposing policy of high taxes on unhealthy products like cigrettes just for social benefits and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor in the lecture refutes this argument considering it unconvincing and challenges all the reasons mentioned in the reading passage.
Firstly, the reading avers that the increase in taxes will decrease the buying of un wanted things. The professor believes there are flaws in the author's position and oppose this point by saying that high taxes will force consumers to buy cheap products which are more harmful because the low quality ingredients used in it which put the health of individual on high risk. Moreover, they continously buy unhealthy food even it is expensive and spend less money on healthy food. Therefore, the speaker finds this argument in the passage to be invalid.
Secondly, the author of the passage claims that, these taxes should be paid by only smokers and people who buy unhealthy food. In contrast, the lecturer rejects the point by indicating that, there are two types of people one with low income and high income. For example, if both buy a pack of cigraette so it will become expensive for person whos earning is less and it is not fair because it will become a burden for them. Thus, the point in the lecture oppose the article.
Finally, the text outlines that high taxation on cigarettes significantly increase the benefits of government. The professor says that the claim is problematic. He explains that government made many projects of million dollars in town and it is depends on the taxation and do not want to lose it. In addition, government have right to imply law that these unhealthy things are not allowed in parks or public places but they do not apply it otherwise it will stop their income. Hence, the point from the text can not be supported by evidence.
It is quite visible that the writer and the lecture hold very different prespectives on policy of taxes.
