Summarize the points made in the lecture being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The article is about the behaviours of elephant and provides three reasons of support . However, the professor in the lecture refutes all points considering it unconvincing and challenges all the point mentioned in the reading passage.
Firstly, the reading avers that old elephants know that they are going to die soon and discoveries have confirm it. The professor in the lecture believes there are flaws in the author's position and oppose this point by saying there is a practical reason with increasing age there teeth become weak and chewing is so arduous. Moreover, they look for soft vegetation which is only available in water and they die in water. This area is called elephant graveyard. Thus, this point from the lecture is faulty.
Secondly, the author of the passage claims that elephants have artistic ability. In contrast, the professor refutes this point by indicating that elephants are trained to paint by humans. In addition, the ears are their sensitive part so humans strech them to train elephants which helps them to remember the pattern of paint brush in the trunk. They only draw the simple lines not a specific picture of plant or animal. Therefore, this point of lecture can be considered invalid.
Finally, the text outlines that elephants have a strong fear of mice. The professor says that this claim is problematic. He explains that they are not afraid from mice just unfamiliar with it and it is natural and the elephants lives in the zoo are not scared as they are familiar and do not feel any threat. Hence, this point of text cannot be supported by evidence.
It is quite visible that writer and author hold very different perspectives on elephant behavior.
