Summarize the points made in the lecture being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
Recently, there has been lot of ongoing debate on the use of “great houses “ in the New Mexico in the American Southwest. More specifically, in regard to passage, the writer puts forward several theories explaining the use of great houses. In the listening passage, the professor believes that none of these theories are convincing and addresses in detail, the trouble with each point made in the reading passage First and foremost, the Author of reading passage states that Chaco structures were purely residential housing. Even they looked like Apartment buildings at Taos ,New Mexico .Some professionals in the same field ,stands in the firm opposition to this claim .In the listening passage ,professor states that even though theses structures looked like apartments but their interior cast doubt on many people living there. The presence of few fireplaces inside this huge building challenged the author’s statement .
The author then goes on to explain next theory that states the building were used to store food supplies specially grain maize .The speaker doesn’t believe this is accurate and find flaws in author’s claim. He explained how excavation didn’t show any traces of maize or maize containers or even there were no spillage of grains on the ground which contradicts this theory.
Finally ,the author brings his argument to a close by suggesting that houses were used as Ceremonial centre.Excavation of mound revealed large number of pots that were used and then discarded by people who attended Ceremonies. But the professor on other hand ,attacks the author’s idea by saying these pots were among all other trash left at the site by the construction people .
